RFID for inventory control

Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) is the latest way of tracking inventory. Along with the barcode tags, WinJewel now also supports RFID readers and tags to allow fast and easy inventory control.

Advances in the tags and hardware are making this a valid choice for taking inventory of just one pad or just one case very quickly without taking the items out of their pads. Also diamond or colored stone inventories can be scanned without taking them out of a wallet or stone box.

The RFID chips are enclosed in the normal barcode tag like a sandwich. The chips are reusable so they can be recycled by sandwiching into another tag for a new item. Scanning is done by passing the reader wand near the item. A radio wave sent from the wand causes the tag to respond by sending the identification of the item back to the wand and then to the WinJewel program. This all happens very quickly.

Because any tag that is near the wand will respond to the wand, it is best to use the barcode reader or keyboard when writing a sale to be sure that you sell only the one item. RFID is best used for seeing if anything is missing from a pad or case.

We are looking for the first few WinJewel users to sign on to use the technology. It requires the purchase of hardware and matching tags. All of the software needed is included in the current version of WinJewel.
